Asana is the tool that takes a plan seriously — goals at the top, work at the bottom, and a line between them. What it does not have is the place the work is actually agreed: the conversation.

Giving the point away
Three of them, and none is a throwaway. If these are what your team runs on, Asana is the right answer and we would rather you knew now.
Goals, unlimited portfolios and resource management from Advanced up. If you have to show a board how this quarter’s objective connects to what somebody is doing today, Asana draws that line and we do not.
Unlimited free guests from Starter up. If most of your work happens with clients and contractors inside shared projects, that goes further than our one to three per user.
Forms with branching, approvals and proofing. A team that receives requests from the rest of the company gets a finished machine there, and would have to improvise one here.
Where the difference shows
Asana has comments on a task and messages on a project; a team chat it does not have, so the deciding happens somewhere else and the task records the outcome later. In taos the work starts in the conversation, which is why a message becomes a task and the task’s comments come back to the channel it came from.
A reminder, an event in a calendar — yours or somebody else’s — or a task on Boards in the project you pick, on every plan. Not a task you go and create somewhere else and then paste a link to.
Since 12 November 2025 Asana Personal is two seats per project and team — you plus one. Ours is eight people, with the chat, the boards, the surveys and the kudos in the same free plan.
Kanban, list, table and Gantt on every plan, Free included. Asana keeps timeline and Gantt for Starter and above, so the first upgrade is usually bought for a view.
Feedback Friday, kudos and surveys from the free plan; pulse surveys and eNPS from Workspace. Asana has no answer here at all — it manages work, and this is not work.
