This is the stack we meet most often: talk in Slack, work in ClickUp, and an integration in between. It works. The question this page asks is what the seam costs — in context, in administration, and in the number of companies you have a contract with.
Capability by capability
Every line about Slack + ClickUp was read on its own pages on 24 September 2026. Where we are still building something, the table says so.
| Slack + ClickUp | ||
|---|---|---|
| Conversation | ||
| How many subscriptions | Two, from two vendors, with two admin consoles and two invoices. | One. |
| Message history on the free plans | Slack Free keeps 90 days of message history. ClickUp’s chat on Free is a trial with 30 days of history. | Six months on Free, and no cap above it. |
| From talk to work | ||
| Where the decision lands | In Slack. Turning it into a task means an integration writing into ClickUp, and the comments on that task live in ClickUp, not in the thread they came from. | The message becomes the task, and the comments on the task come back as a reply in the channel the message came from. |
| Automation on the free plans | ClickUp Free has 5 automations with 100 runs a month; Unlimited has 500 rules and 1,000 runs. | Workflow templates with steps, relative deadlines, a department answering for each stage and conditions that branch. |
| People and focus | ||
| Guests | Two guest policies to manage. On ClickUp’s free plan a guest must be given full access with no permissions; permissions start at Unlimited. | One guest policy: one named channel and one project on Boards, with permissions on every plan. |
| Culture, clients, tickets | ||
| Culture: kudos, surveys, eNPS | In neither product. A third subscription, a third login and a third place the answers live. | Feedback Friday, kudos, leaderboards, anniversaries and surveys from Free; pulse surveys and eNPS from Workspace. |
| Where it runs | ||
| Who you sign with | Two agreements. Slack bought through its own website is contracted with Slack Technologies Limited, under the law of England, with venue in London. ClickUp is a separate agreement again. | One agreement, with HOMtu® sp. z o.o., a Polish company, under Polish jurisdiction. |

Giving the point away
Three of them, and none is a throwaway. If these are what your team runs on, Slack + ClickUp is the right answer and we would rather you knew now.
Slack is the best chat in the category and ClickUp has more views, custom fields and automations than we do. Each is deeper in its own lane than a single product that has to do both, and for a team that lives in one of those lanes, that depth wins.
Between them, Slack and ClickUp connect to almost everything. If your work runs through a tool that ships an app for one of them, that integration exists today and ours may not.
Half the industry already has muscle memory for Slack, and ClickUp is the default suggestion in every "what should we use" thread. Rolling out a product nobody has seen is a real cost and we are not going to pretend it is not.
Where the difference shows
An integration carries data, not the reasoning. The task arrives in ClickUp with a title and a link; the argument that produced it stays in Slack, and a month later nobody can reconstruct why. In taos the message is the task and the task answers back into the channel.
Two products mean two user lists, two offboarding checklists, two guest policies and two places to look when someone still has access after they left. taos has one.
Neither product has kudos, surveys or eNPS, so a company that wants them buys a third subscription. Ours start on the free plan, with pulse surveys and eNPS from Workspace.
An agency in several client workspaces at once switches without logging out, and every notification from every module and every organisation lands in one list. Two products means that problem twice.
Slack purchased through its own website is contracted with Slack Technologies Limited under the law of England, with venue in London — outside the EU. ClickUp is another agreement again. Ours is one, with a Polish company, under Polish law.
Data migration is included on every plan, Free included. Leaving a two-product stack means two exports and two formats; arriving at taos means one import.
